About
The Bar-Kays formed in 1966 and became the Stax Records house band, scoring an early hit with the instrumental "Soul Finger" (1967). Four members were killed in the 1967 plane crash that also took Otis Redding's life; bassist James Alexander re-formed the group and they continued to chart R&B/funk hits through the 1970s and 1980s. The group was inducted into the Memphis Music Hall of Fame in 2013 and the Official Rhythm & Blues Music Hall of Fame in 2015.
