Formed by bandleader Glenn Miller in 1938, the orchestra produced multiple major hits including "In the Mood", "Moonlight Serenade" and "Chattanooga Choo Choo" and was hugely popular during the late 1930s and early 1940s. Miller disappeared over the English Channel in December 1944 while serving in the Army Air Forces. The Miller estate authorized a postwar Glenn Miller Orchestra in 1956; that reconstituted ensemble (managed by Glenn Miller Productions) has toured internationally ever since.
