Historic Market Square (El Mercado) is a three-block, city?owned marketplace with the El Mercado and Farmers Market Plaza buildings plus open plazas, home to numerous locally owned stalls and landmark eateries like Mi Tierra and La Margarita. Built in 1938–39 as the Municipal Truck Market under the WPA, it now hosts major cultural festivals such as Cinco de Mayo and Fiesta De Los Reyes and anchors the west side of downtown near Main Plaza.
